    FAQS :

Our cable internet speed is 100 mbps at most. Does adding this router, which has a faster internet connection than ours, make sense?

This wouldn't help increase your internet speeds because they would still be limited to the 100 mbps offered by your ISP. It might be beneficial to all of your local network traffic that doesn't have to go out to the internet if you have a local NAS or play games over your LAN, for example. Therefore, you would probably be better off purchasing older routers that are more established, offer more functionality, and ultimately cost less, unless you're doing anything that requires fast speeds on your local network (like a NAS). Even though they would be far less expensive, these older routers would still allow you to use your 100 Mbps connection to the fullest.

Will Asus offer the firmware upgrade to comply with the completed standard because the 802.11ax spec has not yet been finalized?

I concur that ASUS will support it until the hardware forbids it. The most current firmware update for my RT-AC68U, which I purchased in 2014, is dated June 11, 2020.

Can I disable the cr@pware feature "lifetime security by Trend Micro"? I firmly object to anyone else monitoring my traffic.

That is not how things operate. Nobody "scans your Internet traffic". When a filter of some kind is placed on the router, scanning begins. The "lifetime service" solely offers filter updates.

How do you release the DHCP of the internet provider?

Well, at least for Verizon routers, you may visit the router's webpage address and log in using the information found on the back of the router. You can release or expire the Verizon router in network settings and use your own Asus router instead, but don't forget to open the Verizon app and select the "use my own router" button to indicate that you will do so going forward. If you don't, Verizon will continue to charge you each month for renting the router.

Your traffic is being phoned in by the router to Netgear or any other party.

The router in question is an Asus. Yes, it preserves a record of all your traffic, which you may transmit for analysis. A bad option for a criminal.

What should I do if I want to mesh with my router?

The size of the region you need to cover will determine the answer. Mesh devices are much more expensive but also much quicker to set up and provide smoother connections, making traveling within the area easier. Check out Netgear or Linksys mesh devices. It would be far less expensive and still function well to add a router "extender" (I favor Netgear extenders) if the house is less than 2500 square feet.

    What do USB ports serve?

In order to access your own cloud data from anywhere, external hard drives can be plugged into USB ports.

Is there a method to determine if it is compatible with Spectrum?

Since it's a router, any internet service provider can use it. If a modem is what you're considering, I'd suggest the Motorola SB7621 if your service is less than 600 Mbps or the Motorola SB8200 if your service is 1 GBPS.

    compatible with gigabit fiber?

True, you said. My Spectrum Gigabit service has a maximum download speed of 940 Mbps, which is gigabit speed. The upload rates are often between 30 and 40 Mbps; however, Spectrum is to blame, not the router, for this.

Is there a difference in performance or features between the current red AX-86U and the black AX-86U?

The only difference is purely ornamental; there is absolutely no performance difference. Just a special edition model for Gundam fans, the red router. If you don't like that, just buy the standard black one, and you'll be OK.

Does this function with the Spectrum modem?

I don't have a Spectrum modem, but I do have internet service through Spectrum using a modem that has received approval from Spectrum. This router functions well, so I presume it would perform similarly with a modem that Spectrum provides.

Aimesh I have no idea what it does.

AiMesh is a feature that enables you to link several compatible ASUS routers together and build a WiFi mesh network over your entire home. This means that you can simply use AiMesh to install another compatible ASUS router if you need more coverage or want new functionality for your WiFi network.

How many 2.4 GHz IoT devices will this support?

The use of the wireless protocol (802.11n or 802.11ac), the number of spatial streams supported, and the general network environment will all have an impact on the 2.4GHz band's ability to handle IT devices.
