Since your dog's ear canal is likely larger than a human's, I believe it would work, but if the reading was lower after a few tries, I would suggest folding the hairless part of the hip area. The normal rectal temperature is preferable to everything. LOL I just tested it twice and received a reading of 99.9°, when my dog usually has a temperature of 101°. However, despite the fact that it only takes a few seconds, my dog won't remain still. She is still a pup.
