    FAQS :

Can I use this machine to produce ice cream without using eggs? Is there a recipe book included with the maker?

Answer: I stopped using eggs because the ice cream would freeze too hard for some reason. 1 cup cream, 2 cups half-and-half, 3/4 cup sugar, 1 teaspoon vanilla, 1 teaspoon vodka (which helps with freezing), a pinch of salt, and a pinch of cinnamon are now my go-to ingredients. It's fantastic.

    Is this good for yogurt?

Answer: The frozen yogurt is delicious. I've discovered that a quart of plain yogurt with 4 raw eggs (optional, enhances texture) and 3/4 to 1 cup sugar and 1 teaspoon vanilla works well. Fill to the brim with milk or fruit purée. It tastes like California tart and goes well with fruit.

Is it normal for the mixing paddle to turn? My does not appear to do this; only the container turns.

Answer: This is the most stupid machine I've ever seen. Instructions are meaningless. So when I put the lid on, the bowl locks and nothing turns, which appears to be by design because there are locks on the lid that lock to the base. When I remove the lid, the bowl spins, but both the bowl and the paddle are spinning at the same speed, so I have a spinning cold bowl that is NOT mixing anything.I'm furious at this damn thing.

Can I make numerous batches after the bowl has been frozen once? Or do I need to refreeze the bowl to produce a second batch?

Answer: I can only make one batch at a time and then have to refreeze the canister for 48 hours before making another, but this could be due to my 25-year-old fridge rather than the ice cream maker. This winter, I plan to prepare numerous batches outside on the picnic table when it's freezing outside and see how long the frozen canister stays frozen!

Can I buy extra bowls to freeze in the refrigerator, and if so, where do I go or what is the Amazon part number to get them?

Answer: I purchased the Tovolo ice cream tubs, which are quite strong and include a removable inner plastic liner for simple cleaning. Ice cream should not be frozen in the large bowl that fits inside the machine since it can damage it. I keep the empty bowl in my freezer until I'm ready to create another batch, then empty it into a Tovolo tub. I looked at different tubs, but this one appeared to have the greatest reviews, was reusable, and was reasonably priced. They hold around 1.5 quarts, and I keep a little extra in the machine to enjoy or place in a tiny Tupperware dish.

I'm curious how this compares to the ICE-60W model.

The ICE-70 model is a step up from the ICE-60W in that it contains an auto count-down capability. Based on this post on the Best Ice Cream Makers, I choose the ICE-70 over any other model: http://bit.ly/1TClJZl.

I'm torn between the ICE-70 (Cool Creations) and the ICE-30BC (Pure Indulgence). Could someone please clarify the distinction between these?

The ICE-70 is larger, has a built-in timer, and three different settings to choose from (sorbet, gelato, and ice cream). Yet, there are just two speeds. The sorbet and ice cream speeds are the same. The gelato setting is slower, but the volume of the end result is the same. I have the ICE-70, but if I had it to do over, I would get the ICE-30BC.

I bought two ice cream machines, and both of them leaked the mixture. Has anyone else had this happen to them?

The only way for this to leak is through the top. There is an excessive combination. Reduce the amount of time it takes to churn. It is necessary to experiment with these—mixtures, bowl temperature, and time.
