    Is it possible to turn off the microphone and Alexa?

    Yes. By clicking the microphone icon, you may switch off the microphone. You may also disable it via the app. If you like, you may also unlink your alexa.

    Is there a way to switch the alexa on the thermostat "off" if you already have an echo (alexa) in the room? or do you want to switch off the microphone and stop listening?

    Answer: Lexa will only respond to the one it hears the loudest. We have a dot in the kitchen, a living room, and an ecobee in the hallway; all three are within 10-15 feet of each other, yet only one responds to Alexa when we call.

    I don't have a 'C' wire, so how tough is it to convert the Ecobee to work with the provided cable?

    Answer: If you don't have a "C" wire, it comes with an adapter; all you have to do is connect the adapter to your HVAC system's control board, and then connect your wires from your thermostat to the adapter; the installation / instruction manual walks you through this step by step and includes labels for all the wiring on both ends.

    Is there a 4wire to 5wire converter included to "make" the C wire for thermostat power?

    yes It uses the four wires already in your wall and installs a 5 wire to four wire converter at the air handler, allowing you to bypass running the fifth "c" wire. It's quite simple. You'll adore it.

    Is the bracket for mounting the thermostat required, or can you install it without it?

    The Ecobee 4 comes with screw anchors and mounting screws. I've got three Ecobees in my house and haven't had to use any special brackets. It also includes a rear plate to conceal any holes caused by a larger thermostat.

    Is there a backup battery? I got rid of my Ecobee3 because it would go insane after a power outage and not come back.

    Answer: The battery is not replaceable, but there is a coin-cell backup battery.

    Would you advise upgrading from ecobee 3 to ecobee 4? Why do you think that is?
