    What is the minimum distance between your phone and the watch for it to work?

    Answer: About 20 feet, although it doesn't have to be in range all of the time... The phone is simply required to sync or get alerts. When completing activities, the phone does not need to be in range; it will sync when it returns to range.

    Is there an ECG monitor on this watch?

    No, there isn't. It detects skin vibration using LEDs to determine pulse. This has shown to be accurate and sensitive enough for heart rate-based running training. It does not track electrocardiographic activity.

    Has anyone tried out the golf mode?

    Answer: I used a Garmin Approach X40, which is a golf-specific device. Because of the bigger screen, Vivoactive 3 is equivalent to or better than X40. However, the battery does not appear to survive the stated 13 hours.

    Is the watch capable of tracking elevation gain?

    If you use GPS during an activity, it will track your elevation gain and loss. After your activity has been uploaded to your account, you'll be able to see this information on a graph in Garmin Connect.

    Is it water resistant?

    Yes, you can. Although there are no swimming capabilities on the Forerunner 45, it is waterproof to 50 meters, so you may swim with it. A Garmin representative previously told me that it's advisable to just click the button above water. Because the buttons are moving parts, leaks frequently begin around the seals around the buttons as the device ages.

    Will this watch work without a smartphone to monitor mountain biking?

    Answer: Yes, it tracks mountain and road biking without a smartphone, and you can subsequently transfer the data to your smartphone app. When commencing a workout, though, I found this watch to be sluggish in identifying and connecting to GPS.
