    FAQS :

Many reviewers claim that the Netgear C7800 gets extremely hot. Is this your experience, and if so, how did you overcome it?

It didn't operate for long enough to become warm.

Is there a battery backup on the Netgear Nighthawk cable modem wifi router combo (c7800)?

No, this router does not have a backup battery and is a piece of junk. In one month, I went through two of them. Both failed and were returned. On the first, all of the ethernet ports stopped working. The 2.4 gigahertz and ethernet ports all failed on the second one. I've had a Comcast rental for a month and it's still working perfectly. Netgear's customer service is atrocious, and their technicians are all foreigners who speak very little English. I strongly advise you to avoid Netgear products.

I have a cable provider, but I'm trying to avoid any cable payments. Can anyone answer the w/o asking a question now?

Answer: If you're asking if you can have this without paying a rental fee for what your provider would give you for renting their equipment, the answer is yes. This is a modem and router that would replace the equipment you would rent from companies like xfinity. Purchase this if you want to save $150 or more per year on rental fees.

Will you need a separate modem if you have Xfinity gigabit?

Answer: You don't need a separate modem if you don't have Xfinity triple-play (voice and internet) or a fibre connection. This device includes both a modem and a router.

Is there any way to get a phone jack installed in this room?

While there isn't a phone jack per per, Ethernet services like as Google Voice and Obi200 (if they don't pull another round of "Mandatory upgrades") should work fine. The only requirement is that you use ethernet rather than the garbage that your phone or cable provider provides.

Is this router silent or nearly so?

I can't hear it, is the answer. The internal fans that cool it down are silent. Unlike a Comcast DVR, which can be heard from another room. Disabling flashing lights is another option for blending in.

Is a system with 2 satellites planned, or are additional satellites planned to be made available?

While a 2-satellite system is not yet available, the RBS750 auxiliary satellite can be purchased separately.

    How about a router mode?

A combination modem/router, so yes, it does (called a gateway).

Is there confirmation that this modem is compatible with Xfinity Voice?

No, you need a NETGEAR modem with a "V" at the end of its model name to use VOIP. (A comparable model to the NETGEAR CM1150V would be ideal)
