    Is a router required or will a switch suffice for Ethernet connections to other computers?

    Answer: Unless your provider can provide you with more IP addresses, you will need a router. Typically, you'll want to use a router to allow multiple systems to connect as well as to add security, as most routers include firewall functionality.

    Can I get a 16x4 when all I need is an 8x4? Will the 16x4 channel bonding make things go faster?

    Answer: It depends on the download speed package you have with your ISP. The majority of users will require a 16x4 or 8x4 modem, which has 16 or eight downstream channels and four upstream channels. A 16x4 modem's maximum download speed is typically around 680Mbps, while an 8x4 modem's maximum download speed is roughly half that (340Mbps). Check with your ISP to see if they will accept this modem. Will a motorway with 8 lanes instead of 16 lanes be faster? It all depends on how many cars are on the highway, right? If you don't have enough cars (download speed), using all of the lanes won't make much of a difference.

    Does this gadget speed up the internet? Why did I buy it?

    Answer: (6 years later..) (6 years later...) The throughput of your >slowest piece of equipment determines speed. ISP? Modem? Router? Ethernet card? the actual computer? However, there are a few elements... The first checkpoint is your human bottleneck and the location of the journey's biggest traffic snarl. But in order to process 300 individuals each hour travelling all the way down the path without any backup, both checkpoints would need to be fixed, not just the first one. The same is true for data. One checkpoint is your modem. If it's the slowest component, speeding it up will only increase progress overall to the rate of the next slowest component. Can you get it ALL to function quicker than the flow of data/dreamers requiring processing2 without having more (or paying for more) handling capabilities than you can use?

    Can you take the stand off?

    The CM1150V's stand is simply removed by removing a single silver screw from the bottom of the device. You require a Torx-8 screwdriver or something similar to operate this particular modem. It was mentioned in an earlier review, probably for a different modem, that a Torx-9 was needed.

    Does this support IP from Spectrum or U Verse?

    ATT (Uverse) is built on DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) technology, which is not at all compatible with DOCSIS. I'm not sure about Spectrum (Data Over Cable). The quick answer is no. The cable modem is from Netgear. You will need a DSL modem for Uverse, which might be either VDSL or ADSL depending on where you live.
