    Noco GB20 vs GB40

Noco GB20 vs GB40: When it comes to jump-starting your car, Noco’s got you covered with the GB20 and GB40 models. In this blog, we’ll break down the differences between these two lifesavers, making your choice a breeze.

Noco GB20 vs GB40 – Quick Comparison Summary

    Amazon Popularity

When it comes to popularity, the NOCO Boost Plus GB40 stands out. It’s one of the most highly rated and best-selling jump starters on Amazon. While the GB20 is also well-regarded, the GB40 has a stronger reputation for safety and performance.

    Price Comparison

If you’re on a budget, the NOCO GB20 is the more affordable option. The GB40, with its added capabilities and engine compatibility, comes at a higher price point. However, many users find the extra cost justified for the added performance.

    Battery Capacity

One major difference lies in battery strength. The GB20 has a 500-amp rating, while the GB40 doubles that with 1000 amps. This means the GB40 can deliver more power to start larger or tougher engines, especially in colder conditions.

    Gas Engine Support

While both models can handle gas engines up to 4.0 liters, the GB40 has an edge—it supports engines up to 6.0 liters. This makes the GB40 suitable for a wider range of vehicles, including SUVs and trucks with bigger engines.

    Diesel Engine Compatibility

Here’s where the GB40 really pulls ahead. It supports diesel engines up to 3.0 liters, making it versatile for both gas and smaller diesel engines. The GB20, on the other hand, does not support diesel engines at all.

    Shared Features

Despite their differences, the GB20 and GB40 share a solid list of impressive features. Both offer up to 20 jump starts per charge, have an internal 24Wh lithium battery, a quick 3-hour charge time at 2 amps, and include USB ports for device charging. Safety features like spark-proof technology, manual override, an on/off safety switch, and a bright 100-lumen LED flashlight are standard. Plus, both come with a one-year limited warranty.

    Weight Difference (Correction)

There seems to be an error in weight listing. In reality, the NOCO GB40 weighs approximately 2.4 pounds, not 7.9 ounces (that would be unusually light for a jump starter). The GB20 weighs around 2.7 pounds, making the weight difference between them minimal and not a deciding factor for most users.

    Dimensions

Both the GB20 and GB40 have the same compact dimensions—4.61 inches deep, 8.19 inches wide, and 4.21 inches high—making them easy to store in your glove box or emergency kit without taking up much space.

    FAQS :

How long does a lithium battery last?

Answer: Just like any other lithium battery pack, its life is determined by a variety of factors. The number of jumps utilized, when and how frequently it is charged and drained, the storage temperature, and so on. As of yet, I've used it to jump multiple automobiles (4.0L and larger engines), draining the battery by 25%. The booster has been resting for two weeks and still reads the same, indicating that it hasn't lost much, if any, power from simply sitting.

Is it possible to recharge the device with a 220-volt power supply?

Answer: Only via computer. There is a USB port; however, there is no 220 or 110 cord or adapter.

How long is the charger power outlet adapter cable's cord?

Answer: I'm not sure how long it is, but it's not long. Although you don't need anything else unless your car's battery is in an unusual location with the terminal facing sideways or hidden, It works perfectly in my Acura MDX and Ford F-150.

Is this suitable for a NLP14 battery?

    Yes, it is.

Will my pigtail work straight with this jumpbox if I have the Noco 5 battery charger and use the O'ring and pigtail for a rapid connection?

The answer is no because the narrower gauge wire in that cable would not be able to handle the amount of power the GB20 uses for jump-starting. You would need to replace that connection with the GBC007, which has a bigger cable and connects directly to the GB20; it also comes with an adaptor that you can connect to the cable and then to your GENIUS5.

My car is only 2.3L; therefore, the 400 amp starter will be enough, but will the 1000 amp starter charge it faster? Is it worth the extra $20 to upgrade to the next size?

Answer: While the GB20 is rated for up to a 4.0L normal gas engine, there is no risk of damage to the car if a larger model booster is used. The more powerful models will generally deliver more leaps per charge and turn the engine over faster.

Is it enough to turn on the GB20 as a memory saver when replacing the car battery? My vehicle has OEM remote start terminals.

The GB20 cannot function as a memory saver. The GBC012 OBDII port accessory is only available for the GB70, GB150, and GB500 models.

Is this powerful enough to start a V8? I'm not talking about the tomato juice.

Answer: It immediately starts my 2020 Lexus 5.7-liter V8 with no problems. On my 2016 Ford Explorer twin turbo ecoboost, if the battery is completely dead, if you wait 1 or 2 minutes, it will start right up. I also had to watch a YouTube video at first since I wasn't doing it correctly, but after that, I started approximately 7 more cars and a diesel truck with it.

How long does the jumper's charge last? Dead batteries are extremely rare. Will it last a year or two if I charge it?

Answer: Mine lasted 6 years; however, it was not charged on a regular basis. I bought it in 2016, and it no longer charges. But I used it seven or eight times in those six years (with vintage automobiles), and it saved my buttocks every time. That seems like a reasonable bargain for $100. It lasted about as long as I had anticipated. I'm likely to purchase another.

What is the temperature range of operation? Is it safe to leave it in a hot car in the heat of summer (180 degrees or higher)?

Answer: Those who claim this can be stored at temperatures as high as 180°F are mistaken. The instructions specify a maximum storage temperature range of 120°F with a daily average of 0-77°F. The maximum operating temperature is 120°F, and "NEVER operate above this temperature." There is a caution not to exceed 180°F because this is the temperature at which the battery may explode. These should not be stored in a hot vehicle. You may or may not get away with it.

Will this work to charge a gel battery?

Answer: I discovered it on the NOCO FAQ website. Boost can jump what kinds of batteries? Except for the GB500 Boost Max, all Boost models can only jump-start 12V lead-acid batteries. Wet, gel, maintenance-free, enhanced flooded battery, and absorbent glass mat batteries are examples. The GB500 Boost Max can jump-start both 12V and 24V acid batteries.

Are they permitted as carry-on luggage on flights?

Yes, it is. The GB40 is FAA-compliant and can be brought on a plane, but only as a carry-on. Lithium batteries are not permitted in checked luggage. The GB40 is less than 100 Wh, which is the FAA's restriction. Please read the link below to the FAA guidelines for more information or for recent revisions.

Why does one say "boost" and the other says "genius"? On the Gb40, why are the claps different?

Answer: They are both GB40 products. The clamps on the previous model with the name "GENIUS" are larger.
