    FAQS :

    Is it a smoker?

Answer: If oils are left on the surface of the 07061 griddle, it can smoke. If you have any questions or concerns, please call Presto Customer Service at 1-800-877-0441 M-F 8-4:15 CT or visit our website at gopresto.com.You can also send an email to contact1@gopresto.com.

How many grilled cheese sandwiches can you fit on this griddle?  I prepare for 16 people once a week, so size is an important consideration.

Answer: I just measured with a slice of bread and you can get 12 sandwiches (snugly, with no room in between sandwiches). Doing too many things at once, on the other hand, may not work. You could DEFINITELY accommodate 8, feed half the group for whom you prepare food, and then make 8 more. It also comes with a cool little instruction book that tells you what temperature to cook different foods at.Grilled sandwiches are cooked for 5-10 minutes at 325-350 degrees. The griddle measures 22 inches long and can hold a large amount of food at once.

Is it safe to put in the dishwasher?

Answer: To be honest, I've never had to put it in the dishwasher. The handles effortlessly detach, the drip tray rinses, and the surface wipes clean. Even when I'm making bacon or pancakes, I just wipe everything away. When I made bacon this morning, I placed the entire pack on the surface (minus three pieces), wiped it clean, and hung it over my fridge. If you pin me on a cooking surface answer, you can definitely put the handles and drip pan in the dishwasher.

What exactly is a premium nonstick surface?

The answer is that the surface has texture. This is an excellent griddle. Nothing clings to it, despite the fact that I constantly spray it with Pam before cooking.

Does the temperature fluctuate, or does the heat cut off when the desired temperature is reached?

Answer: The heating element controller has an amber indicator light that flashes while the unit warms to the target temperature; once that temperature is reached, the light goes out, but the unit will continue to maintain that temperature until reset or turned off. I'm not sure how well the controller maintains the set point, but the griddle's conductivity is good, with no "hot spots," and it cools quickly when turned off. You could "map" out the surface for variance using an infrared cooking thermometer.

This griddle comes in two finishes: nonstick (model 07061) and ceramic (model 07062).  (07062).  I'm assuming ceramic is safer, but is this true?

The 07061 and 07062 Presto® electric griddles are identical in design. The coating is the sole exception. The model "07061" has a standard nonstick coating, but the model "07062" has a ceramic coating. We provide both coats so that you have an option. If there is anything further we can do for you, please contact Presto Customer Care. You can reach us Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Central Time. Is there PFOA in it?

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) continues to consider perfluorocarbon (nonstick) resins safe for use in food contact. Nonstick-coated cookware is baked at high temperatures, which eliminates PFOA from the end product to the point that migration studies reveal no measurable PFOA migration from nonstick coatings.

Has anyone used it for searing a steak?  My apartment does not allow me to use a grill, and the cast iron/broiler approach always sets off the smoke detectors.

Answer: The maximum temperature for the Presto® Control Master® heat control is 400 degrees. We recommend a 5–10 minute preheat time, and they will cook anywhere from 6–20 minutes depending on your choice (rare to well done) and thickness of the steak. If you have any issues or need assistance with a recipe, please contact us.
