    FAQS :

I saw a keyhole—does it come with a spare key?

Answer: You can use the key to open it. But I tried to avoid using a key since if you don't enter it completely into the keyhole, you damage the area around it, making the lock seem nasty.

Is there an autolock feature on this lock?

Answer: You must turn it manually, which is why I purchased this unit. Similar units that "auto-lock" are problematic in my experience since the "bolt" may not set correctly if not perfectly lined up. We had humidity issues with our door, and the "auto" feature would jam unless you "jiggled" the door. Furthermore, the "auto" lock units deplete the battery significantly faster.

Do the numerals on the frequently used keys (for entering PINs) wear out? In that instance, can a person discern which keys are pressed the most frequently after repeated use?

Even if the four most frequently used keys were identified, there would still be 256 possible combinations because numbers can be repeated. I've had one of these for six years, and while the numbers haven't worn, the buttons that get pushed the most are a little dirtier than the ones that don't get pushed at all. They aren't filthy, but there is some discoloration. However, because my wife and family each have their own codes, eight of the ten buttons are used at some point.

If there isn't any reflected light on the keypad, is it still visible in the dark?

No, the keyboard cannot be seen in the dark. Before the keyboard lights up, you must press a key on the pad. Before entering a code, we press any key and then enter.

Is it true that rain can "fry" this unit?

Answer: On different doors, I have two of them and one of the touchpad deadbolts. The two like this have been in place for around two years, and the touchpad for about three. One (this model) is positioned directly in the elements on a shed, while the other two have eaves above them (quite short overhangs). I'm currently changing the one that's directly in the elements, while the other two are still completely functional.

What is the purpose of the keyhole on the outside of the lock?

Answer: It comes with two spare keys. If the battery fails for some reason, the lock can be opened manually. Because the battery is not utilized to physically pull the lock in and out, it should last longer than fully automatic locks.

Is this lock resistant to bumping?

Answer: It appears that any lick performed with a conventional cut key is vulnerable to bumping. Schlage locks, on the other hand, are more resistant to bumps than other "kwik" types. For sheer quality and durability, I replaced a Kwik digital lock with this.

Is it possible to rekey it to match other Schlage locks?

Yes, but you will need a professional locksmith or a lock rekeying kit, as well as personal knowledge, to rekey this lock. It lacks the "smart key" function found in Kwikset locks, which allows for simple rekeying.
