Why is the little rectangle on the side taking in so much air and preventing it from working?
Answer: I just had a similar "rectangle sucking tons of air" problem with my UV850 Shark, and it turned out that there were two blockages: one in the hose and one at the very bottom of the vacuum (which required using a screwdriver to unlock the two grey screws on the bottom). The vacuum returned to normal when I cleared them.
What is the distinction between the Shark NV 352 and the Shark NV 356?
The 352 has a 25-foot chord, the 356 (professional) has a 30-foot cord, and the hard floor tools are different. The 356 comes with a microfiber 'dust pad' that sits on top of the hardwood floor attachment. The 352's hard floor attachment features a 'V' shape to funnel trash. It does not have a pad, but it does have a duster attachment, both of which are sold separately. The dust cup on the 356 is bigger, and the whole machine weighs 2 pounds more than the 352. The 356 also comes with a tool bag, whereas my 352 did not. On both models, the other tools appear to be the same. They both have the same amps and can be switched to canister mode, but they look different.
How is the filter cleaned?
Answer: There is a HEPA filter in front of the vacuum that can be removed and washed by lifting the door from the bottom. Then you remove the canister from the base (as if emptying the canister of dirt). There are two foam filters there. Lift them both out and wash them as well. Just don't put it in the washer or dishwasher. I wash them in the sink with dish detergent. Simply make sure they are thoroughly dry before reattaching them to the vacuum. They will break down after a dozen or so washings (you will notice this). Extra filters are available for purchase on eBay, Amazon, and other places. When the foam filters get a very dark brown or gray color, I clean them and then wash the HEPA filter.
Is it capable of detecting paper clips?
My ancient vacuum cleaner takes up paper clips and staples. It is not, however, a Shark vacuum. It's been running since 2005. Perhaps Eureka is the way to go.
Is the pet-hair comb included?
The power brush is not included in the package. There is a plastic attachment, but it is not the power brush shown in the photo or described in the description. When I called Shark, they informed me that the power brush is not included with this model. As a result, I contacted Amazon. They offered to replace it, but that wouldn't include the power brush, which wasn't included in the first place. So I inquired, and they provided me with a credit for the amount required to buy a power brush from Shark's website.
What distinguishes the Shark NV356E from the Shark 360?
Answer: The 356e boasts a 9.5" vacuum path, while the 360 is 11". The 360 weighs around 15 pounds, whereas the 356e weighs 14 pounds. The technology and mechanical operation of the models appear to be almost comparable. Attachments are also comparable. I have two 360s that I purchased from Target. I'm quite pleased with them.
We've just owned our vacuum for a few weeks, and when we turn it on, it smells like a dog. What are our options?
Answer: I have two dogs and two Shark vacuums (one for the inside carpet and the other for the filthy, screened-in, muddy porch room). My vacuum recommendations are as follows: I remove and wash the filters after each vacuum (agreeing with other commenters on baking soda, which absorbs smells). I sprinkle baking soda on my carpets before vacuuming every two weeks, and I quickly empty the dust bin after each usage. I clean the dust bin with vinegar and water (spray on a towel, wipe it out, then wipe it again with a damp towel) and the gasket seals with water or alcohol (same process as H2O or vinegar) once a month or two, then pop in a bit (approximately 2 TBSP) of baking soda when dry; I dump that baking soda after a day or two. That appears to be time-consuming, yet I can accomplish both in 5 minutes while watching television. If you open your vacuum and look inside, you'll be astonished at how dirty the filter is after only one use, because, like a car, anything with a motor should not run with a blocked filter. In any case, I'm not affluent, and I want things to endure without smelling, so I replace the filter after each vacuuming.
Is the Shark Navigator Lift-Away Deluxe a self-propelled vehicle?
Any vacuum with a beater brush may be modified to make it simpler to operate on carpet. Begin by placing the cleaner on the carpet to be cleaned, with the head lifted as high as it will go. Turn it on and begin carefully lowering the brush head, one click at a time. When the brush makes contact with the carpet, the tone will change. Answer: In 2019, this vacuum does not include a pet attachment. It only has a non-rotating flat upholstery attachment.
Is the 360 compatible with thick-pile carpeting?
The answer is that it does not function well on thick-pile carpet. While there is an air flow adjustment that helps a bit, it is insufficient. Our bedroom's thought pile is tough to vacuum with this gadget.
