FAQS : Steamfast SF 275 vs Mcculloch MC1275

Is there a way to have the steam come out with an auto-hold or does this item force you use your thumb nonstop? (Do you have a weary thumb?)

Yes, you may press a button to keep the sprayer pressed down for a continual stream of steam. For intermittent spraying, you must press the button with your thumb.

Have you ever used a steam cleaner on a fibreglass shower stall?

Yes, it is correct. I clean the seams where the shower walls meet once a week using it. It eliminates soap accumulation in certain areas, as well as around the drain and in the corners of the shower doors. My shower is made up of three pieces of fibreglass.

Someone said that it works nicely in the shower for mildew and filth, but what about hard water stains on the glass? Thank you very much.

I've used this steamer to remove mineral deposits from faucets and shower heads. I'm sure it'd work on water stains. Before using a steamer, I prefer to spray surfaces to be cleaned with Scrubbing Bubbles or Dawn DW liquid. I hope this information is useful to you.

Is it possible to clean granite countertops with this machine? Have you already done so? What was the outcome?

I haven't tried it on granite counter surfaces yet. I tried it on my tile flooring and was disappointed with the results. This cleaner is not something I would suggest.

Is it simply the hose attachment to this machine that you have? If so, how much is it?

If your SF-275 is more than 9 years old, the hose may be unscrewed from the top and changed. Call 1-800-711-6617 for more information. The hose of a recent steam cleaner will not detach and cannot be changed.

Will bed bugs be killed by the McCulloch MC-1275 Heavy-Duty Steam Cleaner?

Yes, it will kill them, but bear in mind that you must leave the stream on the insect for at least one minute. At first, I didn't do this, and the stream would just stun the bed bugs, who would then reanimate after a few minutes. It may also blast them away using the spray nozzle. The flat, floor attachment proved to be the most successful in keeping the steam on the insect for the requisite amount of time to kill them dead without blowing them away.

My tile flooring have been ruined with dog urine on a regular basis. Will this steamer help or will it only make things smell worse?

Answer: I believe it depends on your tiles, your degree of cleanliness, and how much elbow grease and effort you are willing to put in. My flagstone has a lot of grout lines. I use the steamer for short projects or jobs where I don't care too much about the final appearance. After all of the contractors (including two dry walling businesses) had completed their work, I used the steamer to clean the house we had purchased. I wasn't getting it as clean as I wanted it based on the pads. I wanted the home to look shoeless, therefore I wanted it to be clean enough that when you mopped, the mop water would be a light grey. I finally got it to that state by rubbing it in with a floor buffer (Oreck 550 MC purchased on Amazon) and then sucking it up with a wetvac. It was more efficient, and my usual home cleaner as well as the contractors were blown away. After that, I used Stonetech bulletproof sealer (also available on Amazon, but my tile man was so happy with my cleaning that he brought me a gallon as a gift—a $100 value!). This has been the greatest approach I have come up with so far in my experience with many various types of flooring when remodelling houses for myself and others. This is the strategy I would use if I had dogs and children. In terms of scent, I believe it is the most effective. To try to get rid of odours, I've tried vinegar and baking soda from nature. The steam cleaning did work, and I'm not sure if it was a combination of the two operations, but I was able to eliminate the odour. There was a lingering odour from the house being vacant for three years. The home smelt different in the end, according to several people, and it wasn't the new house scent. For wet mopping, I use 1/4 cup Caldrea all-purpose cleaner mixed in a huge yellow industrial bucket full of water.

My shower is made of acrylic. Has anybody used a steam cleaner on a fixture like this before?

Answer: I've put my McCulloch through its paces on practically everything. My spouse teases me by saying that if he remained still for too long, I'd steam clean him. My refrigerator, coffee pot, and microwave all have acrylic components. It's what I use to keep my fake plants and trees clean. To put it another way, I apply it to practically everything.

Where does the contaminated water end up? Do you think it'll get sucked up?

Answer: Combine this with a shopvac to collect the filthy water. If working on fabric or carpet, use a clean dry microfiber towel to wick away any unclean water remaining on the surface fibres after using the shopvac. Microfiber is also a wonderful finisher on smooth surfaces to remove the rest of the unclean water and leave a clean dry surface, but it's very important for cleaning stains on textiles, otherwise you'll end up with a faint stain when it dries.
