    FAQS :

How long will it take to pump four 265/75/16 tires from 15 to 60 psi?

Answer: My tires are 285/75R16, and airing them up from 30 to 65 pressure takes around 4 minutes (each tire). So, all four took roughly 16 minutes. The 400P model has a run time of 20 minutes each hour and does not require a cool down period.

Is it capable of filling 5th wheel tires to 110 PSI ST235/85R16? (G)

Answer: According to the manufacturer's specs, the 400P's maximum working pressure is 150 psi. Please keep in mind that the 400P includes an 8-foot power cord and a 25-foot air hose. Depending on where you will get power, you may want to consider ordering the 30ft extension hose as well. Part number 00030 from Viair.

Will this compressor operate well with my 33x12.5.15 inch General Grabber offroad tires?

Answer: I also have 33x12.5 off-road tires that I air down on the trail and then re-inflate with this compressor. It works great and is fast.

Can you get an attachment to switch off the compressor automatically?

Answer: We do not manufacture any attachments that allow you to turn off the compressor at a specific PSI. The PSI fills would have to be controlled manually. When moving from tire to tire and checking tire pressure in the middle of a tire fill, our portable compressors with the automated option come in handy. Between tire fills, non-automatic compressors must be shut off.

Can I use this device with a standard electrical socket, or do I need to purchase an ac/dc converter if I want to use it in the garage without a battery?

This machine is solely a 12 volt DC driven compressor. If you want to use this on household current, you'll need a 12 volt DC power supply capable of handling the appropriate amperage. I would recommend a small vehicle or lawn mower battery with a capacity of at least 100 amps. Put a trickle charger on it and you're set. Most of these battery-powered compressors will draw significant current during operation and will become hot, so use caution and keep the compressor free of any combustible things.

    What exactly does "automatic" mean?

Answer: According to a Viair customer service representative, the 440P-auto does NOT allow the user to specify a desired pressure and then have the tire automatically cut off when it reaches that pressure. When it reaches the compressor's maximum rated pressure, it simply shuts down. Perhaps the support representative didn't understand what he was saying, but if that's all it accomplishes, the feature is nearly useless: If you inflate a standard tire to 150 PSI,

What makes it automatic? Does it turn off at a certain psi? I want all of my tires to be 32.

The automatic feature is not of the "set it and forget it" variety. You will still need to manually adjust the pressure in each tire. When moving from tire to tire and checking tire pressure in the middle of a tire fill, our portable compressors with the automated option come in handy. Non-automatic compressors must be turned off between tire fills and whenever tire pressure is checked. That means you'll be running back and forth between the compressor and the unit, turning it on and off. The automatic feature will save you time and effort in quickly inflating your tires.

To inflate a tire, do you have to hold the lever on the inflation gun all the time? It appears that doing anything other than adding a few pounds would be quite exhausting.

Answer: I'd rather hold the chuck in one hand while drinking a beer in the other than become sidetracked and forget it. The original filling clip was falling off the stem, making it a two-handed operation, so I bought a new one at Home Depot for $20. I stock standard chucks as well as a variety of other spare components such as valve stems and covers. I pull the stems right out when I air down. When I'm filling up, I have a small fold-up stool (or my cooler) to sit on and a digital gauge. I also have spare valve covers on hand. The majority of it fits in a pill bottle. I keep an extra 25' hose on hand just in case.
