    FAQS :

What is the production of the negative ions?

Answer: Although most people are unaware of it, negative ions cause Ozone generation to be significantly higher than that found even in outside rainfall. Extensive study by the National Institutes of Health has demonstrated that ozone, or the negative ions produced by air purifiers, is extremely detrimental to persons who suffer from respiratory disorders, beginning with asthma and progressing to all other severe conditions. When used in an enclosed indoor environment, levels can rise to dangerously high levels, exacerbating respiratory ailments. It is even illegal to sell purifiers that generate Ozone in the state of California! Keep in mind that phrases such as "plasmawave" and other such terminology are not always accurate, and that many air purifiers will not use the word "Ozone." You will always witness "negative ion" generation, which indicates that Ozone is being produced. Many air purifiers include a negative ion, plasmawave, feature that can be turned off or bypassed, and after learning about this, I no longer utilise this feature on my Winix 5300. Use the negative ion option on some purifiers and configure it to switch off after 2-3 hours, allowing you to simply ventilate your space to eliminate the Ozone before returning to a closed environment again. This is not something that all purifiers allow you to accomplish! Aside from that, the Winix performs a fantastic job, however respiratory sufferers should be cautious!

What is the difference between the 5300-2 and the 5500-2?

Answer: My 5300-2 came with a remote, but it also turns on and off my television (which is a Samsung), so I don't use it, lol. Honestly, with the exception of a few minor differences, the c535, 5500-2, and 5300-2 are virtually identical. As a result, I would choose the one with the lowest price, even though they are all wonderful!

What exactly is washable? What about the carbon filter? What is the hepa filter? The description of winix, as well as the website, are utterly devoid of information.

Answer: My Winix 5200 came with four carbon filters, which I used for three months before replacing them with new ones. However, the prescreen can be cleaned by soaking it in a mild solution (I use a little vinegar and water and let it soak 15-20 minutes before gently rinsing)...I wasn't aware they were washable, but I wouldn't assume so given I purchased additional... As a result of quitting smoking, I no longer engage in this behaviour. I vacuum using a soft brush attachment, and it works like a charm.

Is it possible to get rid of fart stink using this?

What constitutes a "fart odour" is determined by your personal preferences. For example, my son's thruster pops off at irregular times, and the gas smells like rotten bananas to me; nonetheless, he believes someone is grilling chicken nearby. Who would have thought it? I wish I had an inverter in my car so that I could transport the 5300 when he's in the car with me, but I don't. If his thruster goes off again and the car fills with the stench of rotting bananas (I mean grilled chicken), I swear I'm going to seriously consider installing an inverter.

What exactly does the term "plasmawave" mean?

Answer: Go to You Tube and search for "WINIX PlasmaWave Technology Hydroxyl video." Furthermore, OH is not the same as O3.

Is it possible to reuse the fliters? Is it necessary to change them on a regular basis if not?

Answer: In total, there are three filters: a washable pre-screen, a replaceable charcoal filter, and a replaceable HEPA filter. The HEPA (fine particles) filter should be replaced every year, and the charcoal filter should be replaced every three months (for odour removal). It is possible to vacuum the washable pre screen in order to remove the bulk of "larger" particles, or to wash and dry it for a more complete cleaning. I do a quick 30 second vacuum of mine about once every other week to avoid losing efficiency or premature failure of the filters behind it, and maybe wash/dry it twice a year, but your schedule will vary based on the amount of larger dust, hair, and clothing fibres in your space, and the amount of larger dust, hair, and clothing fibres in your space will determine your schedule.
