    FAQS :

How much do the filters cost, and how often do they need to be replaced?

Wrong answers are being left here. 'Take them out and clean them,' you don't do. Only one of the four filters can be cleaned or washed. The other three can be swapped out. It's CHEAP ($20 for 12) to replace the one you use the most (1x a month). The other two (charcoal and hepa) cost between $60 and $90 per set, depending on where you buy them, and are replaced once a year. I have three dogs, two cats, and live in the country, so that's how I use it, and I think that's fair since this is by far the greatest air purifier I've ever owned.

In a house, how many square feet does this cover?

Answer: I believe it performs an excellent job of covering an area twice the size of the printed area. I've had mine for 4 months and have had no dust, dander, or airborne pet hair in an open space of 750-800 sf, with a significant reduction in an additional 500 nearby feet. It's an open floor layout that works really well.

Is this air purifier still working for you, and would you buy it again?

Answer: Since the beginning of 2020, I've had two of them. I first purchased one and was so satisfied that I decided to get another. With two enormous dogs, we moved into a fresh new home (120-140lbs.) Between the dogs and the "new house scent," which includes VOCs, paint, and everything else, This gadget is incredible!! Check out the reviews and see who your competition are. This unit was meant to be the best for the money. I must concur with the reviews. To be honest, I haven't tried any of the competition, but the Winix HR900 pet was one of the cheapest with the greatest reviews. All in all, I am really pleased with the quality and outcomes for such a low price. I would buy another and will most likely do so. You will not be dissatisfied.

What is the production of negative ions?

Answer: Most people are unaware that negative ions cause Ozone generation to be significantly higher than what is found even in outdoor rainfall. Ozone, or negative ions produced by air purifiers, has been found in comprehensive studies by the National Institutes of Health to be extremely detrimental to those with respiratory problems, including asthma and other more serious illnesses. When used in a closed indoor environment, levels can rise to dangerously high levels, exacerbating respiratory problems! Even the sale of ozone-producing purifiers is prohibited in California! Don't be deceived by buzzwords like "plasmawave," and keep in mind that many air purifiers won't even include the word "ozone." Ozone generation is always visible as "negative ion" creation. Many air purifiers have the negative ion, plasmawave, feature that can be turned off or bypassed, and after learning this, I never use it on my Winix 5300. Some purifiers have a negative ion feature that you can programme to switch off and simply ventilate your space for 2-3 hours to remove the Ozone before returning to the confined environment. This isn't possible with all purifiers! Otherwise, the Winix performs admirably, but respiratory patients beware!

What is the difference between the 5300-2 and the 5500-2?

Answer: My 5300-2 came with a remote, however it also turns on and off my Samsung TV, so I don't use it. Except for a few minor differences, the c535, 5500-2, and 5300-2 are nearly identical. As a result, I would choose the one with the best pricing, as they are all fantastic!

What can be washed? What about the carbon filter? What about the hepa filter?

The description and website of winix are absolutely devoid of information. Answer: I just changed the four carbon filters that came with my Winix 5200 every three months. I didn't realise they were washable, although I doubt it given I have extra...the prescreen, on the other hand, can be soaked in a mild solution (I use a little vinegar and water and soak it for 15-20 minutes before gently rinsing it). I don't even do it now that I've stopped smoking. I vacuum with a gentle brush and it works like a charm. Description: Winix HR900 vs 5500-2
